It’s that time again! Hey, everyone. This time, we’re going to get to know someone you likely have already interacted with before: Katie Nale. Katie is our Customer Experience Director! She manages the day-to-day customer service for our retailers, distributors, customers, and other GTG Operations clients. In managing our customer service, she advises on our customer inquiries, services, and helps ensure you all get the best experience. She also manages our dedicated Citizens, AKA our booth helpers and ambassadors! When it’s time for game demos at conventions, Katie is the go-to person for all of our demo staff needs. Katie works hard behind the scenes to help keep everything running smoothly. Let’s find out a little bit more about her and all that she does!

What’s one of your favorite things about working in the sales department?

KN: I greatly enjoy making sure that our games get into the hands of clients and people at large. Part of that is making sure that we have a positive relationship with distribution people around the world. That’s where I come in with client service! It’s always nice to know that I’m helping people meet their needs.

What’s your favorite way to unwind after a busy day?

KN: Definitely hanging out with Butler and watching bad reality TV. It’s nice to be able to switch off and cuddle up with a cute dog and relax.

What did you want to be when you were small?

KN: I wanted to be a teacher. My declared major was elementary education and special education. But halfway through I decided that I didn’t want to be a teacher anymore for a lot of different reasons. Mostly that there were so many hoops to jump through. It’s a lot of stress and a passion for children can only get you so far. Thankfully I can still help people here!

What’s one thing you wish people knew or understood about working in your department?

KN: Shipping is incredibly hard due to the coordination needed. Dealing with it day-to-day can be taxing. It’s actually very difficult to get our products to a person, and that was only made worse after the COVID outbreaks. Once things are on a boat, plane, or vehicle, there isn’t much that we can do until it arrives somewhere. It’s expensive to ship anything, even within the United States. Part of that has to do with the demands of COVID. Thankfully, most people are really understanding.

What’s your favorite theme park ride and why?

KN:  Spaceship Earth in Epcot – that’s the ride inside the Epcot ball. It makes you feel warm and fuzzy about the accomplishments of humans and how much farther we have to go. It instills a lot of hope in you – and space is cool.

If you were a ruler of your own country, what would be the first law you enacted?

KN:  My serious answer is a livable wage for all people. My fun answer is mandatory ice cream Fridays.

What are the chores you love and hate to do?

KN: I hate all chores, like most people. But if I had to pick? My favorite chores are meal planning and prep. I love making plans for things, going to the grocery store to get them, and picking out our essentials. I absolutely hate laundry because it never ends! Meal planning looks cute and has a yummy reward.

What’s your superpower? Or, which superpower do you want?

KN: I would love the ability to control the emotions and sort of vibe of a room that I’m in. Getting people to pause and take a second to calm down and think would help out a lot of problems, I think. Most people aren’t given the tools to deal with emotions, and we are working to fix that as a people. But until then, a little collective deep breath would go a long way.

Thank you so much, Katie! Be sure to check out last month’s interview with Jenn. Have you heard about our Clean Water Access post? In it, we have a link to a comic where all proceeds go to help those affected by the Flint water crisis. Yep, it may be getting better, but it ain’t over yet! Check it out here.
