The whisper of dark forces crept into her ear at such a tender, young age. Surrounded by filth and hunger and despair, Dianara had dreams of more. Power and security that would mean a better life for her and her sister, Vitalia.
Doesn’t it always start out that way? With the best of intentions to bring good fortune to yourself and your family? The desire for things to just go right for a change?
But then her sister seemingly abandoned her. While Vitalia began to make her way through the world as a hired assassin, Dianara resolved to ensure the same for herself through dark magic. She heard tales of the forbidden nature of necromancy… and the thought of controlling life and death itself? Why, that was too much to resist.
Dianara’s power grew with each body slain. And now that she has amassed an army, she will take what has rightfully always been hers: the power to rule over all of the realm!
Dianara’s Mechanics
Let’s talk about the dastardly Dianara the Lich Queen by taking a look at her panel.
Life Drain
Dianara is not to be taken lightly. Her power to manipulate the dark forces isn’t just for raising her undead army—her counter allows her to sap one life from you and bring that lifeforce back into herself.
Success at a Cost
Success against her, too, comes at a price. Any rolled 6 means a whopping 6 darkness cards added to your heap. She will make sure that your blade, arrow, or spell is tainted with the dark and brings it back to haunt you on the next dawn.
Marching Forward
And, of course, she’s unstoppable. She marches forward with each of her minion’s charge in addition to any advances she may make during the darkness phase. Plus she gains additional minions at Dark, when her powers are at their height, and charges her minions forth.
She’s determined. She’s sure of herself. She knows that she is the rightful queen of this realm and all the power that it holds.
But she’s not impossible to defeat! Only difficult. And with a defeat comes rewards.
The Boss Loot
Her rewards are Dianara’s Shroud, Canticles of Banishment, and Lich’s Grimoire. All three rewards are that all-important wildcard purple. Don’t forget that those immediately go into your hand!
The Necromancer’s Skeleton Army
Beware Dianara’s skeleton army: while not as individually powerful as their master, they come in such numbers that they’re just as likely to stop you as she is. Though they have no will of their own other than what their mistress has commanded, they are clever enough to ambush you for one damage as soon as you enter a location. They do not stop until they are slain. They are going to ensure that their queen takes her crown.
Defeating Dianara
Tragic though she is, Dianara still must be stopped by you and your foes. Will you be able to avoid her life-draining power to defeat her?!
Next time, we’ll be talking about the outrageous barbarian: Fera!
