I personally thought Speaker was the strongest of the original 4. My advice for folks when I worked in a bookstore around the time the Shadow books were coming out was to read the first two if each, then stop.
I didn't dislike any of them. I even really liked Xenocide, which people didn't like for some reason.
McBehrer is the sole winner of this game... And McBehrer, I would step carefully should you find your way down dark alleys. More than one vote said simply, "McBehrer must die."
I liked the shadow books better than the speaker books but I think that's because the speaker books were more philosophical sci fi than than the shadow books. The shadow books were more political and tactical thrillers
ME!!!! I have three days to read it before Mario Kart 8 comes out.

Pre-ordered mine from Barnes and Noble, which means I have to wait for the store to open. Bleh.

I'm #3 on the hold queue for the two local library systems. Since they will each have copies of the book, and neither shares new books with the other (a bit of a pissing contest, that, IMO), I'm pretty sure I'll be going by the library when I get off of work on Tuesday.
Edit to add: As is usual for years past, they have the first several chapters available to read on Jim Butcher's website - although it's five this year rather than the customary four. Also links to other publicity-related stuff.

Yyyyyyup. While I enjoyed Ghost Story and Cold Days, I felt they didn't measure up well to Changes. Skin Game definitely did, IMO.
See, I'm strange on this front -- my favorites are still absolutely Summer Knight and Small Favor. What I enjoyed most about this one was that it feels more like one of the pre-Changes books.

I agree that it felt more like the earlier casefiles than the mini-trilogy of Changes, Ghost Story, and Cold Days, and I hope he continues in that vein. I understand why Butcher had to tear down (in Changes) so much of what he'd had Harry build up, but it was also frustrating to see that character not just plateau but actually regress in many areas. Skin Game did a great job of pulling together Harry's support network, his mixture of preparation and improvisation on a personal level, and the foresight he'd finally started showing back around Turn Coat. I'd missed those in the past couple books, even if there had to be some time for Harry to really break into the big leagues.

Sorry. I try to keep my comments general. How far in are you?
Partway though Proven Guilty, iirc. That one didn't interest me enough that I had to devour it right away, but I will get back to the series at some point because I can't resist the urge to finish stuff (even if it's not amazing).
Have to say I don't like DF as much as I want to like it, unfortunately.

My brother has read those books. He loved the first one, liked the second one, and then hated the third.

That's my opinion as well.

The tiny man didn't damage it beyond reading--it just feels strange to the touch because of the water damage.
You're free to do whatever you want to.
Anyone else wishing that they could jump straight to next Tuesday for the release of Skin Game?

Oh yes. Time disappears on the 30th. And my Wii U magically arises from its slumber of ages.

Mine is preordered on my Nook. Just waiting for B&N to release it.
Thanks for the heads up. I'm now #72 in the queue.

6 years between A Feast for Crows and A Dance with Dragons was criminal neglect on his part.

Everyone that wanted to see Karrin take up Fidelacchius got their wish.
Spoilers!!
:(
I'm still part way through the series.
Just assume I'm always doing that.
Damn it, Ronway!
Then you might not want to be reading a topic discussing the books... ;)

This is a general topic about all kinds of books, perhaps you could create a new thread to discuss spoilery Dresden.

I wasn't expecting anything other than general Dresden comments, to be honest.

Me, too. Luckily I forget things quickly.

Have the Silence appeared in the Dresden books? Quick! Everyone check themselves for tally marks.
